Accessibility Toolbar (ATbar)

List of features

There are 10 features listed below, and each function is assigned to a different button on the Accessibility Toolbar. The first button is a red heart-shaped icon for people to help improve the internet.
Fix The Web

Any user can report accessibility problems with a website which volunteers at Fix the Web will then take forward with the website’s owners.

The next button has a looking glass with a plus symbol on it.Magnify the size of the text.

The third button also has a looking glass, but this time with a minus symbol on it.Reduce the size of the text.

The next button bears the capital letter T for text.You can choose a different font and increase the line spacing.

A red tick below the first few letters of the alphabet is used to identify the Spell Checker button.Select the Spell Checker button while writing in an unformatted, plain text form. Suggestions are shown below the text-area after a pause. Disable the checker by selecting the button once more.

An open book is used to symbolise the dictionary function.Select the Dictionary button after highlighting a word and a definition from Wiktionary will appear.

A megaphone icon emitting sound waves is used to depict speaking.Select the text-to-speech button to have highlighted text read aloud.

This feature is similar to Windows Narrator. If you’re using Windows, then you can toggle the Narrator on/off by holding down the following three keys at the same time:the Control key, the Windows logo key and the Enter key.

A small cluster of differently coloured blocks come together to represent letters forming words.Word prediction works with plain text editing. Allow a moment for the word list to appear once you’ve started typing.

An artist’s handheld paint palette displays a spectrum of colours on this button.Change text colour, etc.

Faint blocks of different colours feature on the last button.Select the overlay button to provide a colour tint over the entire page. You will see a choice of colours – cream, pink, pale blue and pale green. These buttons toggle the colour overlay on and off. The main overlay button will hide the buttons and return the website to its original colour.


Please note that the features on the toolbar will not work with all browsers and some of the functionality may be dependent on the design elements within individual pages.
